How it all began – simple curiosity.
Pat Scanlan, the founder of Arraby’s, loved to dabble in all kinds of things. Learning about reflexology introduced her to essential oils and their wonderful properties.

Studying essential oils and their amazing benefits led Pat to experiment with blends for herself and her friends.
Local markets
At the urging of family and friends, Pat started selling at local markets. Pretty soon her part time hobby turned into regular work and in 1997 Pat registered “Arraby’s Aromatherapy” as a business. Local events gave way to travel and regional events and trade shows. Eventually making products at the kitchen table was untenable. A “previously enjoyed” school portable building became the factory.
Michael joins the team
In 2003, son Michael left his day job and joined, eventually buying the company from her. Pat had health issues and in 2007 the wonderful team at St. Paul’s Hospital successfully transplanted a kidney from Michael into his mom. Now retired, Pat enjoys traveling and playing lots of duplicate bridge.
Wholesale and Online
Michael’s goal from the start was to transition the sales from direct-to-consumer, to wholesale. We built up a retail base of about 400 stores across Canada and haven’t participated in a tradeshow since 2012. Now in 2024 we are going to rekindle those direct-to-consumer sales but through our new website.
